STRADA FILM presents LOVERBOY, a film by Catalin Mitulescu
Strada Film started shooting for Catalin Mitulescu’s second feature: Loverboy (previously entitled A heart-shaped balloon), starring George Pistereanu and Ada Condeescu.
The film tells the story of Luca, a 20 years old youngster living in Harsova, a small town by the Danube. Luca seduces girls, makes them fall in love with him and passes them on to a network in Constanta. For the human trafficking agents, this technique is called the “falling in love” method and the ones doing it are named “loverboys”.
Luca rides his scooter through the sun-burnt plains, takes care of his grandfather and picks up girls from the poor villages by the Danube. His life changes when he falls in love with Veli. Luca seems willing to give up everything he did before to be with her. A complaint filed to the police by an ex-girlfriend and the pressure coming from his boss force him to make a decision: give Veli up or not.
Also starring with George and Ada, are Bogdan Dumitrache, Clara Voda, Coca Bloss, Ion Besoiu, Remus Margineanu and Alexandru Mititelu (Finu from If I want to whistle, I whistle) and many other non-professional actors, in an impressive cast of more than 30 characters.
Shooting takes place in 15 locations in Constanta and its surroundings and will end by mid November. Loverboy will be launched in cinemas next year.
Catalin Mitulescu made his debut in 2006, with The way I spent the end of the world. The film received the Un certain regard award for best female performance at the Cannes Film Festival, in 2006 and was Romania’s proposal for the Academy Awards in 2007.
